Insomniac shared the Story Trailer for Spider-Man 2, giving not only a better look at the plot of the sequel, but many of the characters involved too. From Harry Osborne’s ominous pledge to the surprise return of Mr. Negative, there’s plenty to whet your appetite before jumping into the full game later this year. Since the game lets you play as both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, this motif of them coming together to overcome their villains. While over double the size of its predecessor to start, Spider-Man 2’s size isn’t too surprising.
This guide was specially crafted for the PS5 version of Spider-Man 2 and also applies to the 2025 PC version. In keeping with Insomniac’s track record, the music behind it all is stellar, with Miles’ and Peter’s respective signature tunes playing depending on who you’re controlling. A highlight, though, is the theme that follows in Kraven’s footsteps, which bears more than a passing resemblance to Howard Shore’s Uruk-hai war march from The Lord of the Rings score. It soundtracks a world that looks stunning, even when played in performance mode at a stable 60fps as I did for most of my playthrough.

Instead, Spider-Man 2 plumps for a pretty confused take on the now venerable black suit/Venom’s origin storyline. It’s mashed together with an uncharacteristically large-scale invasion of New York by Kraven the Hunter (seeking worthy super-powered prey) and a tangle of other subplots and returning villains. The plot points are outlandish, the themes muddy, and Miles doesn’t really have enough to do.

On top of that, it’s expected to set the scene ahead of the game’s arrival, giving us further insight into what Peter, Miles, and MJ have all been getting up to since their last appearance. On the other hand, Spider-Man 2’s version of New York is also expanding into Queens where we’ll be able to swing around Peter’s home borough, and maybe even visit some iconic locations from his past. As well as this, Scott Porter – who voiced Harry Osborn in the first Spider-Man game – confirmed that the character will be appearing in the sequel. In a now-deleted tweet, the actor revealed that, while the character will be coming back, he will not be lending his voice to the role. Venom also appeared for a brief moment in the reveal trailer, and again in the more recent Story Trailer too.
Spider-man: Miles Morales
MJ, Harry, and Peter have a heated exchange as Peter fails to recollect the events of the previous evening, and Harry begins to spiral. Miles assists Rio in protecting the culture and musical legacy of the city by investigating and preventing a museum robbery. Peter and Harry return to EMF in an attempt to learn more about Harry’s newfound powers, and let him safely practice. F168 and Miles oversee a prisoner transfer at the R.A.F.T., but are rudely interrupted by Kraven and his forces as they seek to capture the villains for unknown purposes.
